I’ve been working on some more Baby Led Weaning Recipes over the last few months and these Puree Pouch Pancakes are one of our tried and tested easy favourites. These can be made using any baby food pouch, sweet or savoury with only two other ingredients. And take just 5-10 minutes to make.
These are well loved in our household, as well as my Banana Oat Pancakes. Both Baby Led Weaning friendly and suitable for adults too, although I do feel a bit strange about eating “Baby Food”.
As we planned on doing baby led weaning we didn’t buy pouches ourselves but were kindly gifted some so I wanted to find a way to use them, but still have a baby led weaning approach. These are a great way to use them up and I have another post coming next week featuring lot of other meal and snack ideas to use up sweet and savoury pouches.
What Pouches Can I Use For These Baby Led Weaning Pancakes?
You can use any puree pouches, our favourites to use are the Heinz Apple and Banana, Strawberry or Blueberry Pouches. We have also tried Piccolo and Ella’s Kitchen. We tend to make sweet pancakes but you can also use the smooth savoury pouches.
Can I Freeze These Puree Pouch Pancakes?
Yes these can be frozen for up to 6 months and can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. Take them out of the freezer a few hours before you’d like to use them – or the evening before.
How Do I Serve Pancakes To My Baby?
These are suitable for babies over 6 months of age and can be given whole or cut into smaller pieces. I find that serving them whole gives younger babies more to hold on to and they’ll find them easier to eat.
What Pan Can I Use So The Pancakes Don’T Stick?
I have tried many of pans over the years. I always thought it was as simple as just finding a good non stick pan but it’s not. Anything with a slight bit of texture will cause the pancakes to stick. I thought I was awful at making pancakes but it turns out I was just using the wrong pan. We currently have the Tefal Ingenio set which are perfect for making these and my Banana Oat Pancakes.
What Oil Do I Use To Make Pancakes?
I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil which works perfectly. You can also use Sunflower Oil.
Can I Make These Pancakes Vegan?
Yes these baby led weaning friendly pancakes can be made without the egg. You may need to add a little bit of water or a milk alternative if the mixture is a little dry. We often make them with just flour, a pouch and milk (or alternative) when we haven’t go an egg.
