SS Great Britain Kids Go Free

July 24, 2025 ami Leave a comment

I am always amazed by the amount of people that think the SS Great Britain “isn’t for children”. Honestly there is so much to do for all ages. Both my boys, aged 4 and 1, really enjoy each visit to the SS Great Britain. They have a brilliant “Kids Go Free Offer” throughout the Summer and I have put together a little guide so you can all make the most of your visit to the SS Great Britain this Summer. I’d definitely encourage making the most of this offer.

Summer of Picnic and Play at SS Great Britain

For the first time ever, SS Great Britain invite you to picnic on the weather deck so you can really make a day of it. And make the most of the SS Great Britain Kids Go Free Offer by bringing you own lunch. Picnic blankets are provided but you’re welcome to bring your own. They have also provided deckchairs for children and adults.

There is so much more happening throughout the Summer including Magic Shows from Dr. Matt, Tales from the Top Deck, Face making and much more. There are games such as connect 4, draughts, skipping, Jenga and hopscotch dotted around the dockyard. Within the dockyard museum there is opportunities to stamp your ticket as you go around the museum, steer the ship and screw the lifting frame. There is also a separate room with old fashion clothes, hats and accessories for you to try on and take photos.

On the ship itself there’s the opportunity to see, hear and smell what life was like on board the SS Great Britain. This includes steering the ship, scrubbing the decks, testing out the beds, climbing to different levels of the ship and much more. You can also visit the dry dock and go underneath the ship which is fascinating to see.

When is the SS Great Britain Kids Go Free Offer Valid?

The Kids Go Free Offer is valid for all visits from 19th July – 1st September and is valid with a full paying adult. Children aged 0-4 are already free to visit the SS Great Britain. With this offer children aged 4 – 16 can also visit for free.

How much are tickets to visit the SS Great Britain?

Tickets are £22 for adults (age 17+) and currently free for children aged 0-16. The adult ticket is an annual ticket so you can return as many times as you like over a 12 month period. The free child’s ticket is not included in this offer.

Car Parking for SS Great Britain?

The closest Car Park is the Martime Heritage Car Park. There is a discounted rate for those visiting the SS Great Britain of £5.60 for up to 5 hours. There is also the Millennium Car Park and Bristol Temple Meads Station is a 20 minute walk. The closest Bus Stop is Cumberland Road which is a 5 minute walk.

Is the SS Great Britain Accessible for Prams and Wheelchairs?

Yes you can visit all levels of the ship, including the dry dock, with a pram or wheelchair. There are lifts to all level and the shop is wide enough to push a big pram through most areas. I took my Mama’s and Papa’s Ocarro on board which isn’t the smallest and this was fine.

Where can I purchase Tickets for SS Great Britain?

Tickets can be purchased online here. You can save 10% by booking in advance. Tickets can also be purchased on the day.
